Iron Horse Trail Bicycle & Pedestrian Overcrossing Bollinger Canyon Road
Client| City of San Ramon/ Contra Costa Transportation Authority
2022 - 2023 | $23 Million
The City of San Ramon and Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CITY/CCTA) constructed a 6-span new cable-stayed pedestrian and bicycle overcrossing to create a grade separation for the Iron Horse Trail over Bollinger Canyon Road. The approach to the bridge is supported on MSE embankments. New trail connections, landscaping and drainage facilities were also part of the project. The new overcrossing consisted of steel superstructure with a concrete deck. The superstructure is supported by a steel center pylon with stay-cables located in the median of Bollinger Canyon Road. The purpose of this project was to enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists using the Iron Horse Trail, improve traffic flow on Bollinger Canyon Road, facilitate alternative transportation, and enhance recreation.
ZT Consulting Group (ZTC) prepared and implemented the project Source Inspection Quality Management Plan (SIQMP) in support of Caltrans oversight requirements. ZTC provided on‑call quality assurance and source inspection services, including review of fabricator quality control plans, oversight of material procurement and fabrication activities, and verification that structural materials and construction components complied with project specifications and applicable standards. ZTC coordinated closely with construction management, fabricators, and stakeholders to support the material control cycle and ensure timely inspections and documentation throughout project delivery.
