Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility East Expansion
Client | The Port of Long Beach
2024 - Ongoing | $56 Million
“America’s Green Gateway” – the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility – will enhance on-dock rail capacity at the Port of Long Beach’s shipping terminals, speeding deliveries across the entire national supply chain, easing congestion and lessening environmental impacts. The project will reconfigure, expand and enhance the existing Pier B rail yard, and directly connect to on-dock rail facilities and the Alameda Corridor railway.
ZT Consulting Group (ZTC) served as the Quality Assurance and Source Inspection provider for the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility East Expansion. Our responsibilities included developing and implementing the Source Inspection Quality Management Plan (SIQMP) in compliance with Caltrans and POLB requirements, performing welding inspections of King Piles at fabrication facilities, and verifying material identification for sheet piles and structural components. ZTC also conducted coating inspections and green tag releases for steel piling systems, oversaw abrasive blast cleaning and protective coating applications, and coordinated sampling and testing of threaded rods and anchor bolts at certified laboratories. Additionally, we reviewed contractor submittals, processed Form 3101s, and maintained detailed inspection logs and monthly reports to ensure full compliance with Caltrans specifications and the Buy Clean California Act.
